MuseumDrawing by Hiroshima survivor Yoshinori Kato, age 17 at the time of the bombing.

The drawing depicts a student of the Dambara Elementary School, trapped underneath the collapsed building. A few badly injured teachers managed to crawl out, but the school burned before any of the students could be rescued.

Comment by the artist:
The elementary school had collapsed completely, and became engulfed in flames while its pupils remained trapped underneath. “Help!” I could hear the shouts squeezed out with all their remaining strength, but had no choice but to run from the falling sparks of fire.
