As events in Ukraine make the prospect of nuclear war more likely and the new AUKUS pact with Australia and the US intensifies a “new Cold War” with China, the British government has pledged to increase military spending and its nuclear weapons stockpile, flying in the face of its legal obligations under the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.

The increasing global tensions – and the energy price hikes they have engendered – have sparked fierce debate about Britain’s future energy security, emphasising the need to make the transition away from fossil fuels to meet Paris Agreement targets – and promoted renewed discussion of the role of nuclear power in the future energy mix.

Everywhere, the nuclear issue is dominating the headlines and posing profound questions for our foreign policy and the future of our planet.

Topics will include –

  • No to AUKUS, new nuclear pacts, or a new Cold War with China
  • Stop the drive to war in Ukraine
  • For peace, not militarism or nuclear stockpiling
  • Why we need welfare, not warfare
  • Refugee solidarity and support for the victims of war and the climate emergency
  • For renewables and clean energy, not nuclear power

You will be emailed the join link nearer the time of the conference.
