Today the government has set out a human rights case against Saddam to complement the discredited report on weapons of mass destruction. Already the report has been criticised by Amnesty International, one of the organisations cited by the report to lend credibility. CND stands by its adoption of the Medact Report in the latest CND briefing on Iraq that has put 500,000 deaths as a likely consequence of war on Iraq. However, for all those concerned with the prospect of war, in and out of parliament, the real issue remains UNSCR 1441.
CND is continuing its legal challenge and expects the Judicial Review to be heard in front of three judges on Monday 9 December.
Today CND has solicited support from Mauritius and Cameroon, two of the non-permanent members of the Security Council. This is the latest support from the international community.
Mark Thomas, the comedian and campaigner has added his full support to this historic CND legal challenge and has organised an event, expected to raise 5,000 GBP tomorrow night at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London.
Today in Whitehall, Mark Thomas joined ‘Voices in the Wilderness’ to protest against war on Iraq in Whitehall.
CND chair Carol Naughton has said:
‘War on Iraq is illegal. It is immoral. If war is waged in Iraq, it could kill half a million people. We must do everything we can to prevent this war.
We are delighted to have the support of leading artists such as Mark Thomas and Michael Moore as well as international messages and financial support from around the world.’
