9 August 2006: for immediate release

Despite significant pressure from the public and MPs, the British government has continued to allow American planes carrying weapons to Israel to refuel at British airports. Weapons flights are known to have landed at RAF Brize Norton (Oxfordshire), RAF Mildenhall (Suffolk), and Glasgow Prestwick Airport since Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon began over one month ago.

Today, Wednesday 9th August, demonstrators will gather at the main gate at 6 pm to call on the British government to stop its complicity in the deadly attacks on Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. Kate Hudson, Chair of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, and veteran peace activist Pat Arrowsmith will attend this evening’s demonstration.

A peace camp will also be set up at Brize Norton in the coming days to continuously monitor the situation at Brize Norton and call for a halt to the weapons flights. It is likely that many of the “citizen war crimes detectives” involved in the recent actions at Glasgow Prestwick Airport will lend their support to upcoming demonstrations and peace camps at RAF Brize Norton and RAF Mildenhall.
