Jill Evans was chair of CND Cymru between 2001 and 2011. In 1981 she participated in the march from Cardiff to Greenham Common, and attended her first CND meeting – the inaugural meeting of Rhondda CND. ‘From that moment the peace movement has been central to my life: a succession of marches, speeches, protests, peace camps and arrests!’ Jill recalls. ‘I cannot imagine my life without CND and the many, many friends I have made and interesting people I have met. ‘I was delighted to serve as Chair of CND Cymru, which had inspired, informed and supported me and thousands like me – and continues to do so. It brings the global situation to the community level and it gives us all a role to play in the campaign for peace and disarmament. In times of international crisis, it is to CND that people turn and in sixty years we have not failed them.’ |
