60 Faces: John Ainslie -

Long-time peace activist and Scottish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament administrator for 24 years, John Ainslie was one of the UK’s leading experts on Trident. He was often the first to be consulted with technical and strategic questions.

Before working for CND, John had two other very different careers: as an army officer in the security services in Northern Ireland and as a Church of Scotland minister. His deep concern about nuclear weapons led him first to be an activist and then to start working for Scottish CND in 1992 just as Trident was moving into Faslane.

He produced influential research reports as well as leading on the practical work in the campaign against Trident. No task was too small or too big.
