John is currently a vice-president of CND, having served as Chair from 1971 to 1977, steering the campaign through the crucial Vietnam War years. He is also active in CND Cymru. He is an engineer by profession and author of Overkill: Weapons of the Nuclear Age, published in numerous editions by Penguin Books during the 1970s and 80s.

‘I have campaigned all my adult-life against nuclear weapons and I would be opposed to Trident renewal even if it cost zilch,’ John says. ‘Britain is responsible for the ‘horizontal’ nuclear arms race – the reason why France, then China, then India, then Pakistan ‘went nuclear’. We need to reverse this madness.’
