Canon Paul Oestreicher is a CND vice-president, as well as a political scientist, Anglican priest, and former Chair of Amnesty International UK. Paul was a founding member of the Movement for the Ordination of Women. In 1938, shortly after he began school, his family had to leave their home in Germany due to the Jewish ancestry of his father. They found asylum in New Zealand in 1939, where he grew up and where he now lives. He has campaigned for peace his whole life. He was active in the Christian Peace Conference and was heavily involved in the anti-apartheid movement. In 2011, Oestreicher gave the keynote speech on the abolition of war at a World Council of Churches conference. A lifelong pacifist, Oestreicher was co-founder of the Anglican Pacifist Fellowship in New Zealand. |
