Anti-war campaigners will gather today to demand ‘truth and justice’ ahead of the delayed Chilcot report due next month.
Kate Hudson, CND general secretary, will give testimony to the People’s Chilcot Tribunal alongside the former UN envoy to Iraq, Hans von Sponeck; British soldiers who served in the war; relatives of soldiers killed in Iraq; as well as journalists and leading figures in the anti-war movement.
Ms Hudson said:
“The Chilcot report has been a long time coming but it will have been worth it if we finally get clarity from the British state about the war on Iraq – the lies, the crimes, the culpability and the responsibility. Our government owes no less to the families of those who paid the ultimate price, sent to fight in an illegal war, and to those innocent Iraqis who lost their lives.
“Hundreds of thousands of people died in the Iraq war and an entire region has been devastated by the fall out of the war Britain and the United States began. It must never be allowed to happen again, and for us to have even a chance of stopping these wars, politicians must be held accountable for the crimes they have committed.
“Tony Blair must stand trial for war crimes. No one is above the law.”
