Commenting on the election result, CND General Secretary Kate Hudson said:
‘I congratulate Jim Murphy on his election as Leader of the Scottish Labour Party but warn him that Scottish Labour will remain dangerously adrift from mainstream opinion if he doesn’t set out a commitment to campaign to scrap Trident.
‘Jim Murphy must recognise the changed political landscape over the past year. Scottish CND and the Scottish National Party, Scottish Greens and other political parties and organisations are vibrant and growing thanks particularly to their active opposition to Trident and the presence of the UK’s nuclear arsenal at the Clyde naval base.
‘Jim Murphy must now listen to the voice of the people he represents, rethink his support for Trident replacement and set out what steps he will take to ensure the UK carries out its commitment to eliminate its nuclear weapons.’
