11 September 2004: for immediate use

The Peace movement gave London Mayor Ken Livingstone a standing ovation
today. Ken Livingstone addressed the Campaign For Nuclear Disarmament’s
annual conference at City Hall in London. He condemned the huge ‘military
industrial complex’ of the US and confirmed his commitment to CND and the
peace movement.

The conference voted overwhelmingly to condemn the continued occupation of
Iraq and the warmongering attempts by the Prime Minister to legitimise
pre-emptive war. CND committed itself to campaign against the development of
new nuclear weapons and to highlight UK nuclear hypocrisy in the run up to
the Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference.

A minutes silence was held for those who died on September 11th 2001 and in
the wars and attacks that have followed.
