CND is attending this year’s Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Preparatory Committee meeting at the United Nations in New York. This event comes at a crucial time for international disarmament.

The US has withdrawn from the landmark Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, with Russia following suit. This seems part of a wider pattern of the US disengaging from crucial treaties: it has already withdrawn from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and has called into question the renewal of the New START treaty. This is a very dangerous moment. A new nuclear arms race is beginning and the threat of nuclear war grows by the day. CND has arranged a side meeting at the Prep Com to discuss the implications of these issues for the world.

Speakers:
• Simon Cleobury (UK Deputy Permanent Representative to the Conference on Disarmament)
• Rebecca Johnson (CND Vice President and ICAN founding president)
• Reiner Braun (President, International Peace Bureau)
• Daryl G. Kimball (Executive Director, Arms Control Association)
