In January 2021, a new treaty entered into force which makes nuclear weapons illegal in the countries that sign it. The United Nations’ Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) was voted into existence by most of the world’s countries, and yet the British government continues to attack the agreement. The treaty entered into force on 22 January 2021. Anti-nuclear activists marked the  occasion with Covid-friendly actions, like the ones in Brighton, above.

What’s next for the treaty?

We need to get the nuclear-armed states, including the UK, to engage with the TPNW.

As well as putting pressure on national politicians, campaigners across the country are taking action at local level.

There’s plenty to do to support this historic treaty – can you help us?
