CND has launched the Talks not Bombs campaign to get Britain to attend the nuclear ban conference.

One action you can take is to write to your local paper about the campaign, emphasising any actions you or your local CND group have taken in support or celebration of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Perhaps you’re working on getting your council to become a Nuclear Ban Community? Or maybe you joined an event in your town to mark the entry into force of the treaty last January? Whatever it is, a local angle is good!

Here is a draft template you could use to get you started on a letter to your local paper:

Dear Editor,

Many of us in [ADD LOCATION] celebrated in 2021 when the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) entered into force, making nuclear weapons illegal in the countries that sign it. [ADD INFORMATION ON LOCAL ACTIVITIES, IF RELEVANT]

The next step is to get Britain involved with the Treaty so it can take steps to join the global majority in support of a nuclear weapons-free world.

The states parties to the TPNW will meet for the first time in Vienna in March. As a non-signatory, the UK can attend as an observer, but it is refusing to do so.

I will be putting pressure on the UK Foreign Secretary to commit to attending, like other NATO states Norway and Germany, and hope many in [ADD LOCATION] will join me.

Yours sincerely,

[NAME OR CND GROUP NAME]
