A delegation of journalists, writers, playwrights and peace activists will visit the US Embassy tomorrow to deliver a letter to the US ambassador to Britain. The letter will call on the United States government to do everything within its power to de-escalate the conflict with North Korea.
Members of the delegation believe that Donald Trump’s recent comments – threatening North Korea with “fire and fury like the world has never seen” – has intensified the conflict. A nuclear war is now a real possibility unless a very different approach is adopted by Britain’s main ally.

What will happen?
At approximately 1.15pm, the letter will be read out by a member of the delegation. Other members will make verbal contributions before the letter is handed into the US Embassy. The letter itself will be published tomorrow morning on the CND web site and sent out as a press release.

An actor, playing the role of Donald Trump, will be in costume, holding the ‘nuclear football’ with a red button – a reminder of the enormous responsibility the US president holds in the present conflict.
Supporters of civil society organisations involved in the delegation are expected to be in attendance. They will hold placards calling for an end to the race to nuclear war.

The delegation will gather outside the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square at 1pm on Friday 11th August 2017.
