Kate Hudson, General Secretary of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, said:
“Any delay in Trident replacement is very welcome news. This will give time for the Government to catch up with the views of the public and the growing number of military figures, who object to squandering over £76bn on a Cold War white elephant.
Any delay must be used to fully commit the UK to assisting President Obama’s drive towards a nuclear-free world. Going ahead with Trident replacement encourages other countries to do the same. The case for scrapping these weapons is indisputable and a delay gives time for that to become absolutely clear at every level of politics and society.”
