23 October 2006: for immediate release

Public Meeting: “Nuclear Power is Not the Answer”
Speaker: Dr Helen Caldicott
Chair: Kate Hudson, Chair of CND
Date: Tuesday 24th October 2006
Venue: Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church, 235 Shaftesbury Avenue, London, WC2H 8EP
Time: 7pm
Organised by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, in association with The New Press and Bookmarks

With Labour enthusiastically backing renewal of the UK’s ageing nuclear power stations, Dr Caldicott debunks the many myths propagated about this so-called ‘clean and green’ energy source. In her new book Nuclear Power is Not the Answer, the bestselling author of Nuclear Madness and Missile Envy turns her attention from nuclear bombs to nuclear light bulbs. On Tuesday evening she will make it clear that Britain and the world cannot withstand either.

Dr. Helen Caldicott has devoted much of the past 35 years to educating the public about the dangers of the nuclear age. She is President of the Nuclear Policy Research Institute in Washington, DC, and is also the founder of Physicians for Social Responsibility. A nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize, she won the 2003 winner of The Lannan Prize for Cultural Freedom, and was named as one of the Most Influential Women of the Twentieth Century.
