The influential Public Accounts Committee (on which I sit) will conduct their inquiry in May 2019 – MoD unable to dispose of nuclear submarines in Fife after decades https://t.co/yH5QTg18Fn

Just asked the PM to extend funding for civil nuclear clean up to include the 20 old nuclear submarines rotting in Devonport and Rosyth. All I got back was waffle. No submarine has been recycled since 1980. We need a properly funded plan to deal with this nuclear legacy

— Luke Pollard MP (@LukePollard) April 3, 2019

If costs of current nuclear sub programme weren’t enough now we hear MOD hasn’t “disposed of any of the 20 submarines decommissioned since 1980 & does not yet know fully how to do it.” Also decomm. costs estimated at nearly £100m each! https://t.co/PZByChYcWs

This is an absolute scandal that has cost the taxpayer eyewatering amounts of money and is leading to the conclusion for many that the UK is an irresponsible guardian of its nuclear assets. A public inquiry is needed so that @DefenceHQ can be properly held to account. https://t.co/ZjOEMXvfDk
